My way? Segway!

Family holidays in Italy: fun on wheels

There really isn’t much you can’t do at the Cavallino Bianco. Some time ago, I signed up for a Segway excursion to have some time for myself during our family holidays in Italy. It was worth every second! Not only was it fun to cruise forests and flourishing pastures, I could also get to know the wonderful Val Gardena in a completely new, authentic and natural way.

Driving a Segway was a little trickier than I had expected. But I swear: once you get the knack of it, you can’t get enough! That was also due to our guide who added some extra fun to the trip with his charm and good advice.

Before starting, he introduced us to the tricks of driving a Segway and to the most important safety rules. At first with a short video and then ”live“ in the rental’s garage. I was a little insecure at first but soon able to control the vehicle. With my blue helmet, I totally felt like the king of Segway!

Time is relative; it’s only worth depends upon what we do as it is passing.

Once all the guests had got green light, we left the “training area”. We drove across the hotel’s bridge directly into nature and the village life of Ortisei. Completely effortlessly, even across steep inclines and stony paths. Majestic mountain peaks, flower pastures and green forests were all around us and we came by the sawmill of Ortisei and the sports centre.

Comfortably and without a hurry, we could discover the village first-hand and become a part of the residents‘ everyday life. I also noticed some admiring glances – the Segways are exclusively reserved for Cavallino guests!

For the return trip, our guide had another surprise: we could deactivate the tempo restriction and dash through Ortisei at twice the speed. With 20 km/h under our feet, the wind in our faces and adrenalin in our blood, we returned to the rental. I got off my Segway and thanked our guide sincerely. For the amazing excursion. For some precious My Time during my family holidays in Italy. And for the anticipation to do it again!
